Tips for listing and selling
If you’re thinking about selling your home, start getting it ready early. Everything takes longer than you think it will when it comes to decluttering and cleaning. Life gets in the way sometimes, but your home must look attractive to prospective buyers if you want a quick sale.
Begin with decluttering. Remove family photos, collectibles, excess pieces of furniture, bath rugs and even area rugs, no matter how pretty. Prospective buyers want to imagine their things in your space, and they want to see the amount of space you have.
Check to see if anything is broken or needs to be replaced. Do all your light bulbs shine brightly? Are cabinet door knobs tight? Do your closet doors open and close properly? Do any faucets drip? All these items and more are things a prospective buyer will notice.
When you’ve accomplished all those tasks, clean from top to bottom. Have carpets professionally cleaned if necessary. Make sure there are no pet odors or stains.
Don’t neglect the outdoors. Mow the lawn, use the weedeater, sweep the porch, and put out baskets of flowers.
Now the hard work is done and your home is ready to list, so let your Realtor know that the day has arrived. He or she will put a For Sale sign in the yard, and you can sit back and wait for the sale.
